Energy Efficient Lighting

Energy Efficient Calculator

The calculator below has been designed to estimate both the environmental and financial savings possible through choosing energy efficient lighting in your home.

Most information should be easy to find, with the Wattage of a lamp appearing on the lamp itself and normally on its packaging.  The cost of electricity is measured in Kilo Watt Hours (KWh).  KWh are the number of Watts or Kilo Watts (1000 Watts) consumed in a 1 hour period.  This figure can be found on your electricity bill that you receive from your electricity retailer.

This CO2 emissions calculator is designed to be used by individuals to estimate both direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions which have been caused by the use of various lamp technologies.  It includes the emissions sources that cause the greatest impact on the environment; however it does not necessarily include emissions from all areas, and will therefore exclude some emissions.  The calculator is not designed to be complete, nor to replace a formal emissions audit.  It is always likely that there will be some emissions which have not been accounted for.  This guide can however be regarded as a reliable guide.
