Brisbane to the Gold Coast Cycle ChallengeMaster Electricians Australia took part in Queensland’s biggest bike ride on Sunday to raise funds for charity.

Not a traditional bike race, the Wilson HTM Brisbane to the Gold Coast Cycle Challenge invites cyclists to ride a 100 kilometre course.

The event helps to raise funds for Diabetes Australia - Queensland and the Heart Foundation in addition to Bicycle Queensland’s aim of increasing awareness of cycling.

Starting at 5.15am on Sunday 9th October, cyclists started at South Brisbane with most arriving four hours later in Southport.

The challenge did not start well for the Master Electricians team with CEO Malcolm Richards having to repair a flat tyre before the ride even began.

Fellow team mate Andre Borell, a former Ford Performance driver, escaped serious injury after a close call with a speeding car.

However the ten-person team finished the course in an impressive three and half hours.

The team are now preparing for the BMW Ride For Life Challenge which sees cycling enthusiasts rubbing shoulders with one of world cycling’s biggest names and ride ambassador, Robbie McEwen, and riders from the Team Jayco-2XU Pro Cycling team on a challenging route around the river city.
