Victoria introduces new solar incentives

Transitional Feed-in Tariff

From 1 January 2012, eligible customers with small-scale solar PV systems can start receiving credits for their excess energy fed back into the grid through Victoria’s new Transitional Feed-in Tariff.

The Transitional Feed-in Tariff, which has replaced the closed Premium Feed-in Tariff, offers eligible properties with a solar PV system of five kilowatts or less a credit of at least 25 cents per kilowatt hour for excess electricity fed back into the grid. This rate is slightly higher than the average retail rate consumers pay for electricity.

The transitional scheme is intended to have a capacity cap of 75 megawatts of installed solar systems across the state, and will provide eligible solar customers with guaranteed credits until the end of 2016.

Standard Feed-in Tariff

From 1 January 2012, the Standard Feed-in Tariff will remain open to solar customers whose solar PV system is greater than 5 and less than 100 kilowatts in capacity, and will continue to be offered for various forms of renewable energy including, wind, hydro, biomass and solar.

Existing Standard Feed-in Tariff customers who are eligible for the Transitional Feed-in Tariff, can either transfer to the new transitional scheme or remain on the standard rate.
