Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) has stepped up the voluntary recall of Ecables copper clad aluminum power cable by issuing a mandatory recall following advice from Master Electricians Australia.

The recall affects all sizes and configurations of power cable with RE110 insulation supplied since 2011, which includes all SDI sizes 10mm2 - 630mm2 and multicore 6mm2 - 50mm2.

The cable was incorrectly manufactured with incorrectly cross-linked insulation. The insulation may become damaged at temperatures above 50 degrees, exposing live electrical conductors.  This in turn creates risks of fire, shock and electrocution.

ESV are advising all electricians who have installed the cable to return to the installation and attach a warning label to the cable and the switchboard while the recall process takes place.
