Get involved…Join our Movember Movement

15th October 2019

With less than a month to go, it’s time to get those razors out and dust off those runners in preparation for the official start of Movember. So, what is Movember?

Movember is a global foundation (founded in Melbourne) that raises awareness around men’s health issues, including prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men’s suicide. For those members that attended the August VIC MEA branch meeting at the Anglers Tavern, Ryan McKinnis (Senior Manager, Community Development at Movember) presented an eye opening presentation about the alarming statistics (such as 6 men each day in Australia take their own life) and the amazing positive impact Movember Foundation is doing for men’s health on a global scale.

To support such a great cause, the VIC/TAS Area Advisory Committee (AAC) is kindly asking for all Victorian and Tasmanian (and hopefully national) MEA members to get involved and participate in this fantastic initiative.

How can you participate?

The most important thing you can do is create awareness around men’s health. That may mean growing a mo, participating in the move challenge (running or walking 60 kilometres over the month – that’s 60 kilometres for the 60 men we lose to suicide each hour, every hour across the world) or simply raising the topic of men’s health in conversation.

If you’d like to be involved in the Master Electrician Australia movement, we’d love if you could also set up a team page (for your company) and/or individual page (for your staff members) under the Master Electricians Australia challenge on the Movember website. As a guide, a great way to financially contribute would be to donate $1 from every invoice issued in the month of November. But if you’d like to raise funds in other ways, that would be great too. Without ongoing contributions, the life changing programs Movember implement and carry out just can’t continue.

To share your Movember journey with the wider community on social media, we encourage you to use the hashtag #meamovember2019
