Master Electricians supports pool efficiency incentives

Master Electricians Australia has endorsed the Queensland Government’s incentives for helping Ergon Energy customers improve pool energy efficiency and cut running costs.

Master Electricians CEO Malcolm Richards said the Pool Pump Energy Efficiency Program would provide a welcome incentive to pool owners to shift to off-peak Tariff 33 or move to a more efficient pool pump.

“We support these incentives, which provide up to $350 to homeowners who connect pool pumps to Tariff 33 electricity, and up to $250 to those who buy a pool pump which is at least 60 per cent more energy efficient than standard pumps,” Mr Richards said.

“These follow on the recent changes which allow pool filtration systems to be connected to Tariff 33 via a standard power point, rather than being hard wired into the home electricity circuits.

“We think this will encourage many pool owners to change the way they use electricity to run their pools. In turn this will lead to a reduction in overall power usage at peak times, reducing the need for additional expensive investment in the generation and distribution network.

“And the bonus for consumers is that Tariff 33 is around 40 per cent cheaper than Tariff 11, so they will save money both when they install and when they use their pool equipment.”

Mr Richards said pool owners wanting to take advantage of the incentives should contact a Master Electrician or licensed electrical contractor.

“We recommend people get a quote on the cost of the changeover, and advice on how much they will be able to save by switching to Tariff 33.

“After that they will be in a position to make an informed decision on whether to change their current arrangements.”
