Update to Ergon Energy Issues

Following on from some significant issues raised by North Queensland members in recent weeks, yesterday Malcolm Richards, CEO of Master Electricians Australia (MEA), met with Peter Billings, the acting CEO of Ergon Energy. Ergon was quite concerned about the negative feedback and as a result of the meeting we have agreed to work on a number of key points. This will be managed through the forming of a special working group with MEA on resolving problems with scheduling, pricing and contact for contractor related work. This group will kick off shortly with meetings utilised to develop key strategies around efficient and timely contact with Ergon. Importantly, this group will include a small representation from key Master Electricians members based regionally.

More specifically as an outcome of yesterday’s meeting, we can advise that the difficulties with Form ‘A’s are a result of Ergon having adopted the latest version of software that ENERGEX uses for the online portal. In contrast to ENERGEX, Ergon has an old customer database that doesn’t facilitate a live connection. This is programmed to be upgraded in September which should result in significant improvements to the operations. We will continue to work with Ergon to communicate any issues or updates on this process.

Ergon has also supplied MEA with a key contact to resolve any significant outstanding problems facing members.  If you have tried to resolve a significant problem with Ergon direct we may be able to help by talking to them on your behalf, simply contact Gary Veenstra Queensland State Manager on 1300 889 198 or email gveenstra@masterelectricians.com.au.

With these strategies in place we should be able to significantly improve the working relationship with Ergon going forward.

Also on North Queensland news, we are delighted to advise that Andrew Bailey has returned to MEA as the Business Development Member Services. With a particular passion for regional Queensland, Andrew has already been reacquainting himself with many of our members this week. Andrew’s member-first attitude and strong customer service make him an ideal fit for MEA. If you haven’t already, we are sure you’ll be hearing from Andrew soon.

MEA will continue to advocate on behalf of our member. As always, if there is an issue that you would like MEA to address do not hesitate to contact your Queensland State Manager Gary Veenstra on 1300 889 198 or email gveenstra@masterelectricians.com.au.
