Queensland Member Committees
In addition to our Qld Council, we are setting up some additional Queensland Member Committees, and involving our current Queensland Branch Coordinators in these. Our history and the bulk of our members are QLD businesses, and we want to make sure we are hearing from you and responding to the issues that impact you the most.
The purpose of the Queensland committees will be to hold quarterly meetings by region, organised and attended by MEA head office (mostly online but open for discussion) to discuss policy and regulatory issues at the local level impacting on our industry. Key issues raised will also feed in to our national ‘Technical and Regulatory Reference Group’ (TRRG). All current Queensland branch coordinators are invited to be part of the relevant Committee, and those branches will continue to operate.
The newly formed Qld committees will be:
- Queensland South (covering Southeast Qld and Darling Downs)
- Queensland Central (covering Wide Bay Burnett and Central Qld)
- Queensland North (covering Mackay/Whitsundays, North Qld and Far North Qld)
We welcome nominations for these committees in addition to our current Coordinators. Please nominate your interest by emailing [email protected] . (You can nominate for the Qld Council as well, it’s not an either/or situation, in fact we’d like to have at least one Councillor on each Qld committee). Nominations will be open until 4 July, with the first committee meetings planned for August.
As a recap on the other committees/groups within MEA:
Tech and Reg Reference Group – a national group of members discussing various technical and regulatory matters and making recommendations to the Board on priority matters. The current chair is Leo Ward.
National Branch Committees – these are run in our branches outside QLD and are established through an election process.
Qld coordinators – these are dedicated members in QLD who work with the local members and our MEA Engagement Lead on local branch networking, meetings and events. Our coordinators will be invited to join our QLD committees.
Women in Contracting – a network of the women in our industry, whether on the tools or back office, all roles are critical. This group provides support, information and networking acknowledging women are under-represented in the electrical industry. This committee has a rotating chair.
Alumni Committee – we will be forming this committee this year among eligible alumni members and will call for nominations soon. The inaugural chair will be Janelle Miller.
