The Queensland Government has handed down its 2025–26 Budget.

Small construction businesses stand to benefit significantly from this budget, with commitments reflecting key policies championed by MEA.

Key budgetary announcements which impact small electrical contractors include:

Small Business Support

  • Apprenticeship Pilot Program – $19 million to support small businesses with apprentice wage costs during two annual four-week training block periods:
    • 50% of apprentice wages for first and second year apprentices
    • 25% of wages for 3rd and 4th year apprentices
  • Secure Communities Partnership Program – $40m over 3 yeas to support small businesses prevent crime by bolstering security.
  • Small and Family Business First Action Statement – $130m to reduce red tape and streamline services for small businesses with greater procurement opportunities.
  • Small Business Support Network – $16.8m over 3 years to empower small business with financial counselling and coaching.
  • Business Concierge – $10.3m over 4 years to deliver seamless access to government support for small businesses.
  • Construction Business Advancement Grants $8.8m over two years to support small businesses purchase business management software and training with $5,000 grants.

 

Workforce Development

  • Returning to Work Package – $20m over 4 years to assist females to transition back to the workforce after having children.
  • Free Apprenticeships for Under 25s – $10m over 2 years to reduce costs for young apprentices and traineeship qualifications.

 

Consumer Energy Resources

  • Supercharged Solar for Renters Program $26.3m over 3 years providing rental properties up to $3,500 rebates for solar panels installations.
