Horizon Power completes 12-month V2G trial

Horizon Power has wrapped up a 12-month trial of vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology, successfully proving the capability of two-way energy flow. The trial showed how households can both charge their EVs and discharge stored energy back into the network.

The findings will help identify the best products for customers to maximise the benefits of their EVs.

Master Electricians has long advocated for greater government and industry support to drive widespread adoption of bi-directional chargers, and this trial is an important step forward. V2G technology offers households a powerful new tool:

  • Energy storage on wheels – excess energy can be stored in the vehicle's battery for later use at home.
  • Lower costs – households can draw on stored energy when prices are high.
  • Extra income – surplus energy can be exported back to the grid in return for a feed-in tariff.
