Online CPD Topics Now Available for Some Victorian Electricians

Following continued advocacy from MEA, Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) has confirmed that, in limited circumstances, eligible electrical licence holders may now complete Topics 1 and 2 of the Continued Professional Development (CPD) Skills Maintenance program in an online format.

These topics cover Victorian legislation and major updates to legislation and standards, helping electricians stay current with regulatory changes while offering more flexible learning options.

The online version is available only to electrical licence holders who have been granted a partial exemption from their Victorian CPD requirements after completing an equivalent practical course covering Topics 3 and 4 (Safe Isolation and Mandatory Testing) in another state.

At present, ESV recognises two courses as meeting this equivalency:
 * Queensland Qualified Technical Person (QTP) course
 * Western Australia WAE200 course

Other equivalent courses may be considered by ESV as they are identified.  Exemptions are assessed on an individual basis. Licence holders must provide relevant evidence to ESV for approval. Once approved, they will receive a direct link to enrol in the online Topics 1 and 2.

MEA continues to advocate for fully remote CPD options for all Victorian licence holders and welcomes this as a positive step toward broader reform. Allowing flexible, online CPD alternatives will help electricians maintain the currency of their licence while saving valuable time and money.
