AS 1851-2012 Building Fire Safety Requirements 

Building fire safety requirements under AS 1851-2012 have been updated.  

As of 13 February 2026, all class 1b and class 2 to class 9 buildings in NSW must have essential fire safety measures inspected and tested in accordance with AS 1851-2012.

MEA continues to advocate for licensed electricians to be recognised as qualified to test and inspect electrical fire-safety systems (i.e. such as smoke alarms and emergency lighting) without the need for additional licences or duplicate qualifications.
