Working at heights rules are set to change, with the threshold for high-risk construction work being reduced from 3 metres to 2 metres from 1 July 2026.
These changes will bring the heigh threshold in line with other Australian jurisdictions.
This means construction businesses will need to prepare and follow a Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) for any work where there is a risk of a person falling more than two metres.
Before any high-risk work begins, the SWMS must be developed in consultation with workers and be easily accessible on site.
