Thanks to MEA’s ongoing advocacy with the Building Commission, several important portal enhancements have been secured to make the transition to the eCert system smoother and more practical for electricians. MEA has consistently pushed for changes that reduce administrative burden, improve transparency, and provide greater functionality for electricians and their employers.
Planned enhancements include:
- > Automatic email notifications to employers or head contractors
- > API integration for eligible organisations including DCCEEW
To facilitate these changes, the mandatory start date for the BCNSW eCert has now moved to 1 July 2026.
Electricians can continue submitting CCEWs using existing methods until 30 June 2026 or start using eCert now.
This new start date also aligns with the upcoming DCCEEW CER Installer Portal for registered installers of new and upgraded rooftop solar systems to submit CCEW via their portal.
While the method of submitting CCEWs will change with the portal, your compliance obligations remain unchanged. Statewide compliance checks by BCNSW will continue across both metropolitan and regional areas to ensure ongoing adherence to safety and regulatory standards.
MEA will continue to advocate for practical, industry-friendly solutions to ensure the CCEW process is as efficient and straightforward as possible.
Further updates on the portal will be shared via email and the BCNSW eCert website, and webinars on portal usage will be held again in late April.
