MEA is looking for members who are willing to share what’s happening in their businesses, speak up about issues affecting the industry and help shape the conversations we take to government.

Regulations, policy and government decisions have a very real impact on electrical businesses. But the decision makers don’t always see what those changes look like on the ground.

You don’t need to be a policy expert. You just need to know your industry, have an opinion and be willing to share your experience.

There are two ways you can get involved:

  1. Have your say about policy issues that are important to you
  2. If you have subcontracting experience, take part in around four online Subcontractor Group sessions throughout the year.

Contributing to Policy Issues

The Policy Issues Feedback Register is a simple, low-commitment way to let MEA know which industry issues matter to you.

When something relevant comes up – a consultation, policy proposal or emerging issue – we’ll email you, based on your preferred topics.  Take a moment to email us your feedback. It’s ad-hoc, with no meetings and no obligation to respond.

Topics could include:

  1. Red tape and regulatory burden
  2. Tax issues, for example, changes affecting discretionary trusts
  3. Income tax thresholds
  4. Energy supply and connection delays
  5. Skills shortages and workforce challenges
  6. Other emerging issues affecting electrical businesses

The Subcontractor Group

The Subcontractor Group will bring together members working or tendering for builders or head contractors on private or government projects.

The group will participate in approximately four online discussion sessions a year, with pre-set topics, plus room to raise issues affecting businesses that need greater attention.

Topics may include:

  1. Security of Payment
  2. Government contracts
  3. Subcontractor procurement and prequalification
  4. Unfair contract terms
  5. Industrial relations, workforce and safety issues

Your experience matters

Your feedback helps shape MEA’s policy positions and gives us practical insight into what members face day-to-day.

You don’t need to have all the answers, just real experience running an electrical business.

The more we understand what members are seeing and experiencing, the better we can reflect that in positions and conversations government.
