NSW Strengthens Industrial Manslaughter Enforcement 

NSW is tightening the screws on workplace safety enforcement, with the Government investing $6.9 million over four years to create a dedicated Industrial Manslaughter Unit within the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. 

The new unit will be dedicated towards of industrial manslaughter offences involving individuals or corporations, signalling a clear shift toward stronger accountability across all levels of business. 

This initiative builds on the existing penalties under NSW law, which include up to 25 years' imprisonment for individuals and fines of up to $20 million for businesses. The announcement signals a clear emphasis on ensuring directors and business leaders maintain effective systems to manage safety risks and meet their due diligence obligations.
