Energy Queensland – Authorised Persons Course
MEA has achieved a great outcome for Qld sparkies wanting to perform upstream isolation! MEA members have exclusive early access to the new online short course to become an Authorised Person (Electrical) with Energy Qld, this course replaces the old full day course, and best of all it’s FREE!
The new AP short course is able to be completed on a mobile device as well as a desktop computer, and only takes approx. 30 to 40 mins to complete. You’ll be emailed a certificate on successful completion that you can use when applying online for authorised person status. More info below.
Energy Qld will be officially launching this new course to the wider industry in the coming week. A special thank you to Qld Electrical Safety Commissioner Keith McKenzie for working with MEA and Energy Qld to get a positive outcome for industry and shout out to Matt Duncan, MEA’s Manager, Technical Services for his hard work the past 18 months getting to this point including feedback to EQL on course content. This push has been made to help all electrical workers and contractors comply with the new Qld legislation restricting electrical work on or near energised electrical equipment, without barries like high costs or lengthy time off the tools for training.
Course Information
The course has been designed to provide the knowledge required by electrical workers to carry out safe upstream isolation at the low voltage service fuses on the overhead or underground assets of Ergon Energy and Energex. It will also provide evidence for an Electrical Worker to apply to the Entity for approval as an Authorised Person (Electrical).
On completion of this course, participants will obtain:
- A basic awareness of the attributes of the distribution network.
- Direction about Ergon Energy and Energex requirements for isolation of a low voltage service.
- An awareness of what Ergon Energy and Energex network assets they are permitted to interact with as an Authorised Person (Electrical).
