New Workplace Exposure Limits Coming into Effect – 1 December 2026 

From 1 December 2026, SafeWork will introduce new Workplace Exposure Limits (WELs) for airborne contaminants. 

Under the changes, businesses will be responsible for ensuring workers are not exposed to airborne contaminants at concentrations that exceed the prescribed exposure standards. 

While electricians aren't typically working directly with hazardous chemicals, many are exposed to dusts, fumes, solvents, or gases during installation, maintenance, or construction activities.  

Members are encouraged to review their work environments and ensure that adequate ventilation, PPE, and control measures are in place ahead of the 2026 transition.
