New Workplace Hearing Test Requirements from 1 January 2026

From 1 January 2026, new rules will apply for businesses that regularly use hearing protection to safeguard workers from hazardous noise.

Under these changes, employers will be required to:

  • Arrange a baseline hearing test within the first three months of a worker starting employment, and
  • Provide follow-up audiometric testing at least every two years.

It's important for business owners to review their WHS policies, confirm whether these obligations apply to their workplace, and plan ahead to ensure compliance before the commencement date.
