There will soon be changes to the Cheaper Home Batteries Program. From 1 May 2026, the rebate for solar batteries will:
- – decline every 6 months at a higher rate
- – be tiered based on battery system size.
This will impact the number of small-scale technology certificates a solar battery may be eligible for, particularly for larger sized systems.
If you’re considering getting a solar battery before 1 May, it’s important to be aware that demand during this period is likely to be high.
The rebate is determined by the installation date, not when a contract is signed. Make sure you do your research to find a reputable retailer who is honest about what they can deliver. Before signing a contract for a solar battery installation, confirm with your retailer:
- the installation is possible in the agreed timeframe
- if the quoted price will be honoured, even if the installation date changes.
You can use our solar battery STC calculator to estimate the number of STCs your solar battery installation may be eligible for based on the date it’s installed.
