MEA is working closely with Standards Australia to understand the details of the budget announcement for free access to Standards. While there are still details to be worked out, here’s what we know so far:

– Free access will not be downloadable PDFs. It will be a very basic read-only on screen access with no download or edit abilities

– It won’t be every Standard. While we’re expecting AS3000 to make the cut, we don’t expect it will be every Standard applying to electrical work. We also  don’t have the details around what sort of login process may be required to access the Standards.

– Free access won’t apply before 1 July, and it could be a later date.

Importantly, MEA continues to provide downloadable PDF Standards access to our members for 24 core electrical Standards. We also have our leading expert technical hotline, ready to take our member’s calls and interpret how Standards apply in practice.
